This beautiful automobile features one of the most popular bodies built for the Duesenberg Model J chassis. Thirty-two Convertible Sedans were built by Murphy, most of which like this example, having been built on the short Duesenberg chassis. 1932 was an interesting year for Duesenberg. In May, a supercharger was announced for Duesenberg passenger cars. This boosted the horsepower to 320 horsepower and upped the top speed by an additional ten miles per hour. On July 26, 1932, the automotive world was saddened by the death of engineering giant Fred Duesenberg. He passed away as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was only 55 years old. In addition, Harold T. Ames replaced E. L. Cord as president of Duesenberg, Inc. Technical: This Duesenberg Model J engine is a modified Lycoming straight eight, featuring dual overhead cams and four valves per cylinder. With a displacement of 420 cubic-inches, this engine produces 265 horsepower. This vehicle sold new for approximately $14,750.
