The Great Depression hit major automobile companies hard. Chrysler, with their high-end models such as the Imperial, was no exception. New to 1933 were two series of Imperials with the “CL” designation, meaning Custom Line. This line was the most expensive series of Chrysler automobiles that year. It featured improvements such as a silent three-speed transmission and a long, cowlless hood. Also new was the coincidental starter and accelerator, that the starter and acceleration were accomplished with the same pedal. It was the last year that Chrysler used hood doors before moving on to louvers for ventilation. Only 155 Imperials were produced in 1933, such as this custom Roadster bodied by LeBaron. Only nine roadsters were built of which six exist.
