This Speedster was perhaps the best-known Auburn model. Styled by Gordon Buehrig, the Auburn Speedster was a masterpiece. Created with beautiful lines, and equipped with a supercharger, this Auburn was designed to maximize potential speed and make a social statement. Each model was adorned with a plaque indicating that Ab Jenkins tested the car to over 100 mph. From the 1950s to the early 1960s, radio and television personality Charlie Arlington owned this car and its twin, and he would lease the pair for appearances in movies and on television. In the 1960s, this car was sold to the donors Phil and Betty Hedbeck. They exhibited the car at the 1964 International Automobile Show at Lincoln Center in New York as part of Sports Illustrated's "Cavalcade of the Car." Technical: This 1935 Auburn 851 Speedster is powered by an in-line Lycoming eight-cylinder engine with 279.9 cubic-inch displacement. Fitted with a supercharger, it produces 150 horsepower. The wheelbase measures 127 inches. Priced at $2,245 new, the 851 Speedster was Auburn's most expensive 1935 model.
