In 1933, the Auburn Automobile Company sought to broaden its offerings and introduced the top-of-the-line Salon series in both the eight- and twelve-cylinder models. The Salons were produced for one year in the eight line. Only three 1933 Salon Eight Cabriolets are known to exist from a total production of 125 vehicles. The Salon cars featured different bumpers and radiator shells. Unfortunately, the new models could not reverse the lagging sales trend that had started in 1932. Total Auburn sales for the calendar year of 1933 were 4,813, a decline of 57.5 percent. This sales figure represented a loss of $2.3 million for that year. Technical: The 1933 Auburn 8-105 Cabriolet is powered by 268.6 cubic inch Lycoming in-line eight-cylinder engine that produces 100 horsepower. The wheelbase measures 127 inches, and the car weighs 3,640 pounds. The 1933 Salon Eight Cabriolet sold new for $1,295.
