By 1924, the Auburn Automobile Company was in disarray with dwindling sales and falling profits. Despite this, the company continued to produce quality automobiles. Auburn introduced the "Six Supreme" in 1923 to try to increase sales. Several new features were added to the 1924 lineup. Most notably, this Auburn 6-63 Touring features a Weidely six-cylinder in-line engine. Weidely engines were produced in Indianapolis, Indiana, and the Auburn Automobile Company used their engines for one model year. Another feature is the fixed "California" top, a design that was discontinued in 1925. While 1924 proved to be a disappointing year in sales, the year did see the arrival of E. L. Cord who led the company to a profit. Technical: This Auburn 6-63 is powered by an overhead valve in-line Weidely engine. With a displacement of 248-cubic inches, the engine produces 60 horsepower. This Auburn is a mostly original automobile. While currently chrome-plated, the headlights and door handles were originally nickel-plated. The insets on the doors were originally the same color as the automobile with black pin striping.
