The new Stutz Vertical Eight engine arrived for the 1926 model year and evolved into the Black Hawk Speedster. The chassis has a central lubrication system and underslung worm-gear differential which gives it a low appearance and allows for sleek and sensuous bodies. In 1927, after winning many races, the Black Hawk Speedster was named the 1927 AAA Stock Car Champion. By 1928, this refined design was named America’s fastest production car after setting records at Daytona Beach. This beautiful Stutz boattail speedster is believed to have been built for famed Stutz race car driver Frank Lockhart. Lockhart was killed during a land speed record attempt at Daytona Beach in the Stutz Black Hawk Special. He never took delivery of this car; it was retained by the company until 1935 when the company folded.
