The Story: 1929 was the final year of production for the Cleveland, Ohio, built Stearns-Knight. The Stearns-Knight was a high-priced, high-quality automobile that was built with the Knight sleeve-valve engine. F. B. Stearns and Company started building automobiles in 1901 after three years of experimenting in Frank Stearns’s basement machine shop.

This company was the first auto builder in the United States to license the Knight design engine in 1911 and afterward was known as the Stearns-Knight Company. In 1925, the company was purchased by John North Willys to be the ultra-luxury component of his Willys-Overland empire. This vehicle features a five-passenger coupe body built by Robbins of Indianapolis.
